SUBMISSIONS TO THE PEN OAKLAND AWARDS:

Effective January 19th, as per new PEN Oakland policy, submissions for the 2014 PEN OAKLAND AWARDS will no longer accept solicited or un-solicited books mailed to our PO Box.  All titles recognized for the annual PEN awards will be titles chosen by nominated PEN Oakland judges.

All books submitted and post-marked before January 19th will be returned.

The PEN Oakland-Josephine Miles Awards were created to honor writers of exceptional works often not acknowledged by the mainstream literary community.

The PEN Oakland Literary Censorship Award honors authors of literature of conscience who may have suffered censorship, efforts to discredit or failure to distribute/review their work based on philosophical or cultural content.

Both are awarded annually, for books by American author published by an American or foreign publisher, or a foreign author published by an American publisher. In addition, PEN Oakland may recognize one book published by a foreign author through a foreign publisher. No application form is necessary and there is no entry fee.  (See contact page.)
